The Price of Healthy is Affordable

 


This will be for at least one full month of groceries per person. There will be some items that will go over into the next month possibly. This is assuming three meals a day, seven days a week minus just two days to eat at a restaurant or someone else’s home. So, three meals a day for about 28 days equals 84 meals (servings) in a month’s time. Some of these items, like the bag of chicken or apples you will need to only purchase once per month whereas the fresh produce, say the four avocados you will purchase one per week for the month. This particular list is very close to what I purchase myself each month. Remember that for 28 days of this one month would be equal to 28 suppers. I have this broken down by number of servings so you can use this for one person or four persons. Just multiply your number of servings needed.

This list is assuming you already have a kitchen with seasonings and many of the other staples.

$10 for a package of chicken breasts with 10 servings

$7.50 four cod fillets (four servings)

$3.25 two servings of shrimp (I usually get four meals out of one bag $6.50)

$5.58 four servings of ground beef (about 12 servings is $16.76. Each one lb roll is $4.19 & if you bought one per week)

$5.78 two servings roast

$5.57 pork steaks (four servings)

$10 frozen hamburger patties

$3.50 hard salami

$6.58 two packages of bacon

$4.76 two tubs of breakfast sausage

$3.14 four cans of tuna

$1 frozen spinach

$3 bag of frozen riced cauliflower

$4.00 two bags of misc frozen vegetables

$5.34 three heads of iceburg lettuce

$5.12 eight sweet potatoes (2/week)

$1 bag of carrots

$1.36 two cucumbers

$5 bag of apples (about 10 apples)

$1.98 two oranges

$3 Hellman’s Canola Mayo

$2.28 non-stick cooking spray

$3.16 Large Eggs, 18ct

$18.88 four cartons of Almond Milk

$3.98 DF butter

$3.12 four cans black beans

$2 four cans of green beans

$16.24 coffee (pro-rated for 2 cups/day for 30 days)

$3.28 one box of herbal tea

 This totals about $150 per person per month. Each week you will have a few of the items not mentioned such as olive oil, seasonings, maybe nuts or other miscellaneous items. But, this is enough food for one person for one month. I would say you could easily round this up to $175 or $200 per person per month depending on your eating habits. I am not in the habit of eating snacks or desserts or sweets so I don’t have these extra’s on my grocery list.
